The Tortora Amphitheater was inaugurated on 01/27/2024 by the Iorio administration following a renovation and enhancement of the site.
The amphitheater was dedicated to the memory of the “Acqui Division”, the military unit of the Italian army which offered heroic resistance to Nazi ferocity on the islands of Kefalonia and Corfu in 1943. Three young people from Tortora, Francesco Neri, Nicolangelo Petrucci, Giuseppe Iorio.
We have decided to leave an indelible mark that we hope will remain for our community, so that our steps can walk on a path already traced for us at the cost of the most expensive thing… life. May the profound meaning of such a tragic moment in our history remain for all of us, as an education to freedom, to civil dignity, to the courage of rebellion: “THE ACQUI DIVISION DOES NOT GIVE UP ITS WEAPONS”.
